Andrew Kotyuk, 89, of Benton Harbor, passed away peacefully at home on February 27, 2007.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. Friday, March 2, 2007, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 555 E. Delaware, with Fr. William J. Jacobs, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Benton Harbor. Friends may call from 5-8 P.M. Thursday at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with the Rosary recited at 7:30 P.M. Memorials may be made to Lake Michigan Catholic Schools, Birthright of St. Joseph, or Hospice at Home. Andrew was born June 9, 1917 in Whiting, IN, to Andrew & Elizabeth (Gacsko) Kotyuk. As a youth, Andrew achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. On January 6, 1940, he married Mary Jane O’Neill at St. John Catholic Church in Benton Harbor. Together they operated the family farm in Benton Township. Andrew and Mary Jane belonged to several square and round dance clubs in the Twin Cities and enjoyed exhibition dancing in Indiana and Illinois. Andrew was a member of SS John and Bernard Parish.
Andrew is survived by six children – Mary Beth (Mel) Weber of Benton Harbor, Kathleen (Don) Doles of Black Hawk, CO, Sheila (Sam) Pantelleria of Benton Harbor, Andrew (Sarah) Kotyuk of Hemet, CA, Rory Kotyuk of Benton Harbor, and Patrice (Nick) Rose of St. Joseph; 14 grandchildren – Laurie (Rick) Carr of Canton, Sarah (Mike) Allerton of Benton Harbor, Dan Abbott of Benton Harbor, Annette Monahgan of Stevensville, Kris (Jeff) Nuter of Benton Harbor, Shawn Pantelleria of Saugatuck, MaryAnn Kotyuk of Kapolei, Hawaii, Maureen Kotyuk of Hemet, CA, Andrew F. (Amanda) Kotyuk of Hemet, CA, Amanda (Jay) Green of Niles, Amber Kotyuk of Granger, IN, Ryan Kotyuk of Granger, IN, Nick (Jenny) Rose, IV of Ypsilanti, Andrea Rose of St. Joseph, 14 great-grandchildren; and his brother John Kotyuk of St. Joseph. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Jane in August 2006, parents Andrew and Elizabeth Kotyuk, and brothers Frank and Robert Kotyuk.
