Charles M. Apsey

Charles Morgan, Apsey, Jr., 72 of Scottdale, passed away Thursday afternoon, January 25, 2007, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, January 31, at Scottdale United Methodist Church, 4271 Scottdale Road, St. Joseph, with Rev. Terry Schneider officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday evening, January 30, at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, in St. Joseph. Charles was born July 6, 1934 in Grand Rapids. He was one of four children born to Charles, Sr. and Esther Apsey. On August 28, 1981 he married Jacqueline Poole at the Scottdale United Methodist Church. He had four children, Charles, III., Sharon, Vickie, and Gloria Lynn. Charles enjoyed working in his profession as a magician and as a taxidermist. He was known for his magic tricks and for his alias “Jo Hobo the Clown” and “Mr. Mystic the Magician.” Charles is survived by his wife, Jacqueline; his children, Charles M. (Myra) Apsey, III., of Broken Bow, OK, Sharon (Bennett) Allen of Jackson, MI, Vickie Ethington of Detroit, and Gloria Lynn (Dayman) Antle of Columbia, KY; step-son, Mike Nagorski of St. Joseph; brother, Kenneth (June) Apsey of Ontario, CA; and by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Robert and Marguerite.
