Elsie's Obituary
Elsie F. Mischke, 96, formerly of Baroda, and formerly residing at Woodland Terrace Retirement Center in Bridgman, passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2007, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 27, 2007, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2673 W. John Beers Road, Stevensville, with Rev. Gerald Schroer officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00, Saturday morning, at the church. Burial will follow at Ruggles Cemetery in Baroda. Memorial donations may be made to either St. Paul’s Church or to the Berrien County Cancer Service. Elsie was born on August 8, 1910 in Poland to Adolph and Emma Frederich. She immigrated to the United States with her family as a child. In June 1928 she married Arthur C. Mischke at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Benton Harbor. For over 40 years, she owned and operated her own beauty shop out of her home in Baroda. Elsie was a life-long member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Church in Stevensville. She was known to be a “Classy Lady.” She enjoyed reading, cooking, taking walks, card playing, and traveling. Elsie was known for her artistic talents including, knitting and painting. She was a longtime volunteer at the Oncology Department of Lakeland Hospital. She was also known for her involvement with TOPS.
Elsie is survived by her close friends, Larry and Judy Schultz & Family, Mildred Schultz, Bruce and Barb Stover & Family, Ken and Linda Weber & Family; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Wanda Frederich; and by her brothers, Henry, Robert, and Walter Frederich.
