Tommy's Obituary
Tommy A. Holmes, 64, of Stevensville, was called to rest on Jan. 2, 2007 after a short stay at Lakeland Medical Center, St. Joseph. He was born March 23, 1942 in Benton Harbor. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and treasured brother. A loyal friend to all who knew him. Tommy was the co-owner of the family owned business, The Holmsted Restaurant, founded by his father, the late Thomas B. Holmes and mother Frances D. Holmes-Walker, who preceeded him in death. After the Holmsted closed in 1993, he was employed by Rieth-Riley Construction Company, formerly Consumers Asphalt. He also had been previously employed at Avion Coach and a Deputy with the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department Reserve Unit in the 1970’s. Tommy was an avid motorcyclist who enjoyed touring with his wife and close friends enjoying life. He is survived by his beloved, life long friend, married 45 yrs. Virginia (Meschke) Holmes. He is also survived by his two sons – Steven (Robyn) Holmes of Paw Paw, Mike (Loretta) Holmes of Saint Joseph: five grandchildren: one great-grandchild : three sisters Nancy (Richard) Holmes -Vaughn of Mesa, Az., Virginia Holmes-Painter of Marion, NC and Jeanne (Ron) Holmes-Lubbers of Houston, Tx. Tommy will be deeply missed by his family and friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:30 A.M. Friday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Rev. Judy Hughes officiating. Cremation will follow the service with burial of his ashes at Crystal Springs Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
