Barbara's Obituary

Barbara “Kay” Dally, 65, of Benton Harbor, passed away after a brief illness on Sunday morning, December 10, 2006, at Jordan’s Nursing Home in Bridgman. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:30 A.M. Friday, December 15 at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Rev. Devon Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 A.M. until 11:30 A.M. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Those wishing to share a memory or sign the guest book on-line may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Kay was born to Leonard and Dorothy (Benson) Dally on October 13, 1941 in Benton Harbor. She was the second of three children. She graduated from Benton Harbor High School and lived her entire life in the Benton Harbor area. On the night of December 10, 1954 her life was forever changed when a vehicle, in which she was a passenger, was struck broadside by a semi-truck. Instead of cheering her junior high school team on to victory that night, her friends and family prayed and cheered her back to life during the next several months as she regained consciousness from a long-term coma. From that time forward, Kay tremendously enjoyed spending time with her family and her close friends. She was a loving person and had a great sense of humor. Kay’s smile could light up a room and she made a lasting impression on everyone who met her. She was always appreciative of the loving care she received from her various caregivers throughout her time at Jordan’s Nursing Home. Kay will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Kay is survived by her mother, Dorothy of Benton Harbor; brother, Curt (Chris) Dally of Portage, MI; brother-in-law Jim Murphy of Monroe, TN; a niece; six nephews; three grandnephews; and a grandniece. Kay was preceded in death by her father, Leonard; a sister, Patricia Murphy; and a nephew, Patrick Shawn Murphy.
