Luba Sotnyk

Luba Sotnyk, 90, of Coloma, passed away, Monday, December 18, 2006 at the home of her daughter in Benton Harbor with her loving family at her side. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:30 A.M. Friday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with The Very Reverend Eugene S. Meschisen officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Friends may call from 5 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to South Haven Area Hospice, St. Michael’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Hammond, Indiana or to the donor’s choice. Mrs. Sotnyk was born December 16, 1916 in Dnepopetrowski, Ukraine to Timothy & Marfa (Kovalchuk) Mikolajczuk. On November 4 1936 she married Konstantyn Sotnyk in the Ukraine. They left the Ukraine in 1943 and since 1953 operated a fruit farm in Bainbridge Township in Coloma. Luba was a loving and caring person who worked side by side with her husband and family on the farm. . Mrs. Sotnyk is survived by two daughters-Lydia Swerbinsky of Benton Harbor, Iris (Kenneth) Garrison of St. Joseph; her son Robert (Jeanne) Sotnyk of St. Joseph; seven grandchildren-Teri Landowski, Derek Sotnyk, Gavin (Kimber) Sotnyk, Corinne Garrison, Michael Garrison, Jeff Petlick, Jacob Petlick; four great-grandchildren-Sarah Swerbinsky, Chad, Kate & Mike Landowski; one great-great grandson Trace Clark; one brother Dmitro Mikolajczuk of Jerseyville, Ontario, Canada, and one sister Justina (Alec) Kosubovich of Jerseyville, Ontario, Canada. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Konstantyn on September 16, 2004, an infant daughter Mary Sotnyk in 1943, a grandson Michael Swerbinsky in 1991, a son-in-law Tony Swerbinsky in 1992, three sisters, and a nephew Jerry Sotnyk in 2004.
