Doris's Obituary

Doris Hannah Wohler, 85, of St. Joseph, passed away Monday afternoon, November 13, 2006, at her home. She was born to Henry and Elsie Samsen on September 27, 1921, in Quincy, IL, and moved to the area as a child. Visitation will be held between 4:00 to 7:00, Thursday evening at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph. Funeral services will be held Friday, at 2:00 P.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 619 Market St, St. Joseph, where she was a member. Pastor Thomas Baskey will officiate the service with burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery. Memorials may be made to either the church or to the Berrien County Cancer Society. Doris was a volunteer at Lakeland Hospital for many years volunteering over 2500 hours of her time there. She loved playing golf, cross stitching, and gardening. She and her husband Bill owned and operated Wohler’s IGA Foodliner for many years. Doris is survived by her son, James Wohler of St. Joseph; two grandchildren, Kimberly Wolher of Kalamazoo, and Jason Wohler of Baroda; daughter-in-law, Cathy Clark of Baroda; three stepchildren, Robert (Shirley) Wohler of Coloma, Eugene (Janis) Wohler of Stevensville, and Ruth Applegate of Roanoke, VA; nine step-grandchildren; one brother, Howard (Vera) Samsen of Las Vegas, NV; two sisters, Ruth (Leo) Johnson of Benton Harbor and Florence (Ted) Parker of St. Joseph; and by her special long-time friend, Charles Mierau and his daughter, Claudia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Edmond Samsen; step-grandson, Bobby Wohler; and by her husband Bill in November 1978.
