Gil Cowell

Gil Patrick Cowell, 52, of St. Joseph, died suddenly on Wednesday, January 17, 2007, at his home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Sunday, January 21, 2007, at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Pastor David Van Denburgh officiating. Gil was born July 4, 1954, in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania. He was one of four children born to Harold and Laura (DeWitt) Cowell, who both preceded him in death. Gil was a graduate of Berrien Springs High School. Gil married Beth Matson on February 28, 1983. He was the owner/operator of Cowell and Company, Floor Covering Installations, in St. Joseph, for more than 30 years. Gil enjoyed collecting cars. He was a “kind and generous person who always put a smile on everyone’s face.” Gil is survived by his wife, Beth Cowell of St. Joseph; children, Zackary and Kyler of St. Joseph; two brothers, Terry (Luette) Cowell of Dayton, OH, and Sam (Penny) Cowell of Napa, CA; and by his sisters, Sandy (Joel) Roy of Louisville, KY, and Leslie (Lin) Selby, of Poolesville, MD.
