Fred Russell Bromley

Fred's Obituary

Fred was born on Jan. 2, 1921 in Buchanan, MI, the son of Fredrick and Mabelle (Gould) Bromley. He was united in marriage to Meryl L. Myers on Sept. 26, 1942 in South Bend, IN. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a Radioman 2/c and served on the USS Earle, USS Cates, USS Eisner, USS Adirondack and the CSFL Convoy Teams. Fred was a tool & die designer for General Motors. He was a member of the Lions Club, Moose Club, Elks Club and the Masonic Lodge. He loved reading and memorizing poetry, playing golf, calligraphy, traveling to almost all of the States, and a number cruises. His surviving family includes his wife Meryl of Dowagiac, one son Gary Bromley of Dowagiac, three daughters Judith (Jim) Utrup of Dade City, FL, Kathryn Bromley of Las Vegas, NV, and Joyce Howell of Niles, MI., eight grandchildren Barry Bower, Becky Marcotte, Sarah Young, Derek Rhine, Gareth Rhine, Phillip Howell, Angelena Howell, and Robert Howell, eight great children, one sister Norma Cramer of Buchanan, MI. Fred passed away Saturday, October 26, 2013, surrounded by family members at his residence. He was preceded by his parents, one sister, and nine brothers. His family will have a Memorial Service in his honor on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at 11am at The First United Methodist Church, Dowagiac, MI. He was entrusted to the Cremation Services of Southwest Michigan. Memorials in his name may be made to the First United Methodist Church or the A.C.T.I.O.N. Center.
