Iris Irene Shaffner

Iris I. Shaffner, 91, of St. Joseph, passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2006 at Caretel Inns of Royalton. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, 3003 Leco Ct., St. Joseph with Rev. Wade Panse officiating. Entombment will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens, Coloma. Friends may call from 6-8 P.M. Friday at Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Disease Research or First United Methodist Church in St. Joseph. Those wishing to share a memory or sign the guest book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com. Mrs. Shaffner was born June 30, 1915 in Chicago to Charlels & Florence (Murphy) Cartwright. On September 29, 1932, she married Robert Shaffner in Chicago. Iris was employed by Ruben H. Donnally Co. of Chicago. Following retirement, Iris and her husband moved to St. Joseph in 1980. Robert preceded her in death on April 25, 1990. Iris was active at the First United Methodist Church in St. Joseph, and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed flower gardening, baking Christmas cookies, traveling, and most of all, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Mrs. Shaffner is survived by her son Owen (JoAnn) Shaffner of Montesano, WA; her daughter Karen (Lee) Bond of St. Joseph; five grandchildren-Michael (Susan) Bond, Elise (Steve) Hubbard, Alisa (Charles) Bishop, Melanie (Kyle) Shuttlesworth, Amy (David) Iverson; six great-grandchildren; a special nephew Rev. William Nelson; and her special friends from the Friday Night Club-Harriet, Edith, June, and Rita. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter Karen Marie Bond, three brothers and a sister.
