Laura Angier

Laura A. Angier, 102, of St. Joseph, formerly of Watervliet, passed away on May 22, 2006, at Lakeland Hospital, St. Joseph. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2006, at 10:00 A.M., at Starks & Menchinger Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Fr. Bill Jacobs officiating. Burial of cremains will be held at Riverview Cemetery, St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to the Berrien County Cancer Service and to the North Berrien Senior Center, Coloma. Laura’s life began on April 20, 1904, with her parents, Joseph and Elizabeth (Frazier) Skanes, in the coal mining community of Kenova, West Virginia. She was one of ten children. Years later, her family moved to this area where she met her husband Cecil Lett and had two children; Betty Harris of Benton Harbor, and Harold Lett. Both Cecil and Harold preceded her in death. Grandchildren of this marriage include David (Carol) Harris, Nancy (Richard) Karchunas, Betty Jo (Ron) Pelkey, Laura (Jack) Martinic, Teresa (Bruce) Geike, grandson-in-law, Bill Martinic, Dee Ann Lett, James Lett, Rollie Angier, Steve Angier, Michelle Angier, Debbie Angier, and Mike Angier. Laura worked for many years at Auto Specialties and later retired from Modern Plastics. She met her second husband Harold Angier and had a step-son, Rollie Angier of Texas. Whether it was sewing, cooking, or crafting, Laura excelled at whatever she did. She was energetic throughout her entire life. Always, at the top of her list were the love of her family and having fun with them. Other survivors include 25 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; and two nieces, Shirley Bongiorno and Geri Smith. In addition to her parents, husbands, and son, others preceding her in death were six brothers and three sisters; son-in-law Carl Harris; granddaughter Susan Martinic; grandson-in-law Preston Dilts; and great-grandson, Jack Martinic, Jr.
