Bud's Obituary
Mathew “Bud” George Schlutt, 68, of St. Joseph, passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2007, at his home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 P.M., on Friday, March 9, 2007, at Kerley-Starks & Menchinger Family Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph with Rev. Wade Panse officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday evening, March 8, 2007, from 5 to 8, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers anyone wishing to make a memorial may do so by donating to St. Joseph First Methodist Church. Friends may send the family a condolence message or sign the guest book on-line at www.starks-menchinger.com. Bud was born May 26, 1938 to Goldie Schlutt at Mercy Hospital in Benton Harbor. He lived most of his childhood at Silver Beach. Bud worked as a young man at several stands at the beach. He also ran the kiddy rides for two years and the rifle range with his mother for four years. Bud had various jobs which included working at Twin City Sash and Door, Benton Harbor Tent and Awning, Tile Mart, and Lake Shore Drafting and Engineering Supply. In 1965 Bud opened his own shop called “The Frame”. In 1984 he changed the name to “Bud’s Frame & Glass Shop” and he owned and operated it until it was closed in 2006. Bud loved to play golf, ride his motorcycle, and dance. He raced and rebuilt many Corvettes and was past president of Corvette Country. He was a member of St. Joseph First Methodist Church and sang in the choir. Bud is survived by his Dad, Ivan Burkepile of St. Joseph; his best friend Dede Bittner of St. Joseph; numerous cousins; and many friends and customers that became friends. Bud was preceded in death by his mother, Goldie Burkeplie.
