Gratia's Obituary
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Basil Catholic Church, South Haven, on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. There will be a time for receiving friends from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. Friends wishing to make a memorial contribution can so to St. Basil Catholic School, 513 Monroe Blvd., South Haven, MI 49090.
Gratia was born in Benton Harbor on September 22, 1940 to the late Lester and Evelyn (Peters) Nower. In 1976 she married Lee Harold Soergel. He preceded her in death on March 25, 2017. She is survived by a daughter, Missy Dornan, and sons, Ron (Stacy) Young and Gregory (Dawn) Young. Also surviving, five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She has three siblings surviving, Mary Griffin, Terry Franklin, and Frances Gomez as well as her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Les and Sue Soergel. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and three siblings, Rex Nower, Maxine Zolen, and Kathryn Mielke.
For over 35 years, Gratia was a server for Clementine’s and before retiring, served as their hostess. She enjoyed teaching Tai Chi, serving communion, and participating in a local dance troupe for the community. Her kindness and caring spirit created a strong bond with both family and friends. Gratia especially enjoyed evenings with her sisters and special dinners with her Tuesday night friends.
