Thomas Alfred's Obituary
Thomas Riemer went to be with the lord on the morning of June 10, 2024 in Paw Paw, Michigan. Tom passed away peacefully, with a John Denver song ushering him home.
Thomas Alfred Riemer was born on June 29, 1942 in South Haven, Michigan. Tom, as he was known, was the second of three children born to Fred and Mabel Riemer. Tom grew up on his family’s blueberry farm and was a member of the FFA in school.
Tom graduated from South Haven high school in 1961. On January 11, 1964, Tom married his sweetheart, Susan, at the South Haven Congregational Church. Tom and Susie had two daughters, Kelly and Heather, and raised their family on Tom’s family farm. Tom served as a trustee on the Geneva Township Board and was an active participant at Peace Lutheran Church in South Haven.
Tom worked as a facilities supervisor for General Telephone Company (GTE) for over 30 years. He started with GTE as a cable splicer. Tom also took care of his family’s blueberry farm, which was a labor of love for Tom, who took so much pride in the land and continuing his family’s legacy.
Tom loved to be outdoors and to travel. He particularly loved the upper peninsula, which he called “God’s country”. Tom traveled throughout most of the lower 48 states with his family and friends and visited Alaska twice. When Tom wasn’t busy working outside on the farm, he would sit outside on his porch with a Milwaukee’s Best Light and a toothpick, and observe the sights and sounds of his corner of the world.
Tom will be deeply missed. He was a kind and gentle man who loved his family to his core. Tom is preceded in death by his wife, Susan Riemer, his parents, his brother, Robert Riemer, and his brother-in-law, Chuck Moore. He is survived by his daughters, Kelly (Greg) Manuszak and Heather (Steve) Nadeau, his sister, Carolyn Moore, his grandchildren, Lauren (Devin) Sloan, Allison (Michael) Kridler, Emily (Donnie) Divis, Casey (Emily) Manuszak, and Corey Manuszak, six great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
There are no services planned at this time. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the National Parks Service or Al-Van Humane Society. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Maple Lake Assisted Living & Memory Care and CorsoCare.
“… and if you’re looking for Heaven, it’s north of the bridge.”
